Youth are a Resource!

Motivated, energized and empowered Youths from Uganda.

" Let us use the optimism and enthusiasm of young people as a resource to help solve world problems" - Speech of the Queen of England during the opening of the Commonwealth Head Of Governments Meeting in Kampala Uganda 2007.

Conformation? Not many times that Youth are thought of as an important element of any society. They are marginalized and their role in society insignificant.

The UN Youth fact sheet of 2007 shows that today's population of youth is the highest in the history.Nearly half of the world's population( about 3 billion people) is under the age of 25 years and 85% of this lives in developing countries. Asia alone is home of 70% of the developing world's young people.

This blog is designed to facilitate youth participation through policy advocacy, experiential learning and building youth networks all around the world.

What are doing in your community as a Youth? We are seeking out pictures, stories and videos addressing particular problems that affect you in your social environment and what you doing to address them.

You do not need to dig into books to speak or write about something that affects you. Look around your school, home or community and draw experiences that you will share with us on this blog!

Capture that moment, concern and perspective. Lets us share and remember, you are a Resource!

Thanks for the blog and the light about youths' right to know the policies and rights they deserve.

It is due to the fact that cultural differences, values, beliefs, backgrounds that discrimination, racism, is brought up. Youths having exposed to such environment create problems to themselves whereby small groups for example in my community are being initiated in that many youths have their own circles that is to say; those speaking the same language and those known to be of high class . This is caused by the beliefs and background of some individuals right away from their childhood i.e. some youths grew up in environments where discrimination was a key word which recurred as they grow.

I serve as a volunteer at our Church in trying to bring youths together so as to avoid the differences and to build one man's spirit. This is done through seminars, beaching which is directed by the youth patron Fr. Joseph R.

A particular topic is handled per day in different languages so as to be beneficial to each attendee. There are different categories of youths we accommodate i.e those in school, dropouts, singles, and married. They are counseled and advised to raise issues that seem a problem to them so as to be handled as respected. For example those who were harassed and felt unloved since their childhood, never received happiness in their lives and feel they do not fit in any society.

There is an interval for the word of God and at the climax of the day, entertainment such as dramas, poems, video or disco is done. This interests youths very much in that those who used to take marijuana, watching obscene movies, walking aimless for the whole day become tamed and they keep on reminding us the next theme for the holiday to come.

It is good to report that this worked in that for the first day of the seminar we had 200 youths but by the end of the 5th day it zoomed to over 900+ youths and feeding became a problem but Fr. Joseph had to dig into his pockets as whereas the pleading from the church.

Let me take this chance to beg all youths out there to be themselves as constructive and productive people since nothing can fail you once your esteem is positive, come up with ideas, seek advice from others, form groups to share ideas, try to disclose and share what you know so as to be built up.

Do not be sluggish, take a sip and be responsible.
